Hockey tournament events a success!

Tikinagan was excited to host two events during this year’s Little Bands Hockey Tournament, held in Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul First Nation during the week of February 12 to 19.

There were 58 teams from First Nations in the region and Tikinagan hosted a dinner and lunch to offer free food to the hungry players and their fans. The first event was a hotdog dinner in Lac Seul on Wednesday, February 15.

Many staff volunteered their evening to hold the event and handed out over 500 hotdogs, chips and juice boxes. There were two draws held that evening for a youth hockey stick and an adult hockey stick. Congratulations to the winners; Dave Tanner and Amanda Littledeer! Addtionally, several prize packs were drawn throughout the evening with a variety of items like mugs and shirts.

On Friday, February 17, a hotdog lunch was held at the arena in Sioux Lookout, where again staff handed out hundreds of hotdogs, chips and juice and held prize package draws throughout the afternoon. There were also draws for hockey sticks. Congratulations to Lily Panacheese and Lyara Meekis!

Tikinagan management sincerely thanks all of the hard-working staff for helping organize and host these events! Additionally, Tikinagan thanks the Lac Seul Police Service for offering their garage for the dinner, the Lac Seul school for lending us their barbecue and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout for allowing us to hold the event at the arena. A big thank you to the organizers of the Little Bands Hockey Tournament for holding another successful and fun event for families and children from the communities we serve.

In the spirit of our service model, Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin (everyone working together to raise our children) we were happy to host these events and support families and children in having a fun and safe time in Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul.
