Tikinagan board recruiting youth representatives
Posted: July 14th, 2017
Tikinagan Child and Family Services is seeking youth to help guide Tikinagan in its support of children, families and communities.
Those interested in serving as volunteer youth representatives to the Tikinagan board of directors are invited to apply by August 31, 2017. The board will then select two youth, one female and one male.
"Tikinagan strives to provide services in a manner that best serves all families," says Lorraine Crane, Tikinagan board chairperson. "Opportunities for input from young adults and parents are needed. The appointment of Tikinagan youth representatives will provide direct participation by youth with the board of directors."
During a two-year term, the volunteer youth representatives will provide input on Tikinagan policies and procedures, participate in meetings and committee work, and attend the agency's annual Chiefs’ assembly.
At the annual assembly in 2009, Chiefs passed a resolution allowing for youth representatives under Tikinagan's bylaws. A youth representative must be 18 to 25 years old, a member and resident of a First Nation served by Tikinagan, and able to travel to meetings without an escort. Honorariums will be paid for participation in Tikinagan meetings and events, and all travel costs will be covered.
Applicants to become a volunteer youth representative are required to submit the following by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, August 31, 2017:
- their resume
- a letter expressing their interest in serving as a youth representative to Tikinagan's board of directors
- a letter of recommendation from their Chief and council
Application packages can be sent by e-mail, fax or mail to:
