As the weather gets colder, the days get shorter and the holiday season approaches, we’re reminded that it’s time for Mamow Shkaawin “Coming Together”. During this time of year, it’s important for us all to come together and be there for one another.

Learn about the ways Tikinagan supports coming together and how you can be there for children, youth and families in your community.

Mamow Shkaawin “Coming Together” is an extension of our service model Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin “Everyone working together to raise our children”. It is based on our traditional way of protecting and caring for children and supporting families. It means coming together, reaching out and connecting with one another, so we can all work together to make a good life for the next generation. Children are sacred gifts from the Creator, not only to the family but also to the larger community of extended family members. Everyone shares in the responsibility of protecting and caring for that child.

Did you know Tikinagan has a Prevention Program? Our Prevention Team is made up of community-based workers that help develop and host activities, workshops and programs, and connect families and children to community resources. Whether it’s programming for new parents, after school programs for children and youth, or traditional gatherings and activities for the community. Our Prevention Team is there to connect communities and provide skills and supports for our First Nations.

ᑲᓇᐁᐧᓂᒪᐊᐧᓱᐃᐧ ᐃᐧᑐᑲᑫᐃᐧᐣ Foster Connection. Become a Foster Parent.

Mamow Shkaawin “Coming Together” means being there for children, youth and families in your community. Every child deserves a safe and nurturing home to grow, but not every family is able to provide that for their loved ones. Becoming a foster parent is the best way to ensure children and youth in your community remain connected to their family, community, culture and traditions. But you’re not alone, Tikinagan workers are there to answer questions and provide support every step of the way.
