Working with your family during visits, when kids come into care

Tikinagan has released two new community resources to help families understand how Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin works in action. The first explains how we work with families and what it means when Tikinagan visits your home. The second helps families understand why children are brought into care and next steps to keep children connected to their families.

Every parent needs help from time-to-time. That is why we strongly believe in the cultural traditions of the community working together to raise our children. Tikinagan is a part of your community. We are here to help you, not judge you.

If we’ve come to see you it is because someone has told us they are concerned about your child(ren). The person who comes to your home is a Tikinagan Intake/Investigation Worker or an After Hours Family Service Worker. They are trained to help with supporting your family, and will work with you to ensure your children’s safety and wellbeing.

These two new resources provide a helpful introduction to our services, as well as Mamow Obiki-ahwahsoowin, and will help address frequently asked questions.
